Welcome to the bible.Lockman.org AI Bible Study Assistant, Ask/Chat AI Service (“we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our website and services, including any AI-generated content provided through our platform (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. 

  1. Use of the Service
  • The Service provides AI-generated responses powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT API. These responses are provided for educational, informational, and Bible study purposes only and should not be considered professional advice (e.g., Pastoral, scholarly, legal, medical, financial, or psychological). 
  • The Service is not a substitute for Pastoral counsel, spiritual direction, professional counseling, or advice from qualified clergy or ministry leaders.
  • You must be at least 18 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction if it is above 18) to use the Service. 
  • You agree not to use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes, including but not limited to:  
  • Harassment, hate speech, or discrimination 
  • Generating or disseminating false or misleading information 
  • Violating intellectual property or privacy rights 
  • Attempting to reverse-engineer or interfere with the Service 
  • Using the Service for purposes unrelated to Bible study, biblical research, Scripture reading, or religious education.
  1. User Content
  • If you submit content (e.g., prompts, questions, or feedback), you retain ownership of your input but grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, review, process, and improve the Service based on that content. 
  • You are responsible for ensuring that your content does not violate any laws or third-party rights. 
  1. AI-Generated Content
  • The AI may produce inaccurate, biased, or offensive content. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any output. 
  • You are solely responsible for how you interpret and use the AI-generated content. Always verify critical information from trusted sources. 
  • You are solely responsible for the AI-generated content based on the prompts you provide and the way in which you interact with the AI. 
  • AI-generated responses do not necessarily reflect the theological positions, doctrinal views, translation decisions, or official interpretations of The Lockman Foundation unless expressly identified as such.
  • The Service may occasionally produce incorrect biblical references, quotations, or interpretations and users should verify information directly from Scripture.
  1. Privacy

We respect your privacy. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your information. We take reasonable steps to avoid associating prompts and AI-generated content with personal information except as necessary to operate, secure, maintain, or improve the Service. Prompt and response data may be temporarily retained for operational, security, troubleshooting, legal compliance, or service improvement purposes. Any content we may decide to store is for our internal use only and is not linked to you. 

  1. Intellectual Property
  • Bible text quotations, trademarks, and related materials remain subject to applicable copyright, trademark, and permission requirements of The Lockman Foundation. Use of the AI Service does not grant additional rights to reproduce, distribute, publish, or create derivative works from copyrighted materials.
  • All content on the Service, including design, branding, and AI-generated output, is either owned by us or licensed for use. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our permission. 
  1. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
  • The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee results from the use of the Service. 
  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Use of the Service is at your own risk.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the revised Terms.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our discretion, with or without notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. The venue for any legal action shall lie exclusively in Orange County, California.
